We were let out in front of hotel Madrid asking round for a phone to contact Moustapha our landlord. That was an experience in itself. We were very lucky that our driver brought us up to the hotel. Going back down took us 20 minutes to half an hour, I can only imagine climbing the hills we went down! Our lodging was great in the middle of the medina in a 150 years old house. I bit cold but our own fault for not starting the main room fireplace! Here are the pictures:
The guy in the black djballah is our land lord Mustafa. The next pictures are from the rooftop it was quite a surprise.
We were in CHefchaouen only 2 nights. The flight from Tanger to Malaga on a Sunday is at 7 am. Chefchaouen, as I said in a previous post, is a two hour drive. We figured we should come down the hill after 11 am the day before the flight. SO we did.
We loved the city itself and its people. Vendors were much more relaxed, not in your face. I must add that Moroccans are very nice people. Yes even the in your face vendors in Marrakesh.
The Chefchaouen town is built in the mountain. It was beautiful to discover. Its houses post the color blue everywhere. Some travelling company calls it the Smurfs town. The first night we found a nice restaurant not far from our apartment. It was still Ramadan until our return to Spain. So we had to wait that the kitchen people ate first. We had delicious soups and tagines. Very cheap.
We have grown to love the Moroccan sweet mint tea. I must admit we did not miss having wine for our dinners the whole time we spent in Morocco. On our way home Jim and I went around the corner for a little walk and discovered this little castle from the hill side. You will have pictures from the square side during the day in another series.
The bedsheets were damp from not heating the apartment for a while. Not sure how long the place had been empty. We were staying in the middle of the mountain. we could go back up to a square and then take on all the little back alleys to many destinations.

This is us going down the street to our place
We found a breakfast restaurant on the square I was talking about. You have to understand that we were in Morocco during Ramadan. During that time people are not allowed to eat or drink while the sun is up. They dine and party late at night. Some of them also get up at 4 am to eat before the sun comes up. So in the morning they need to sleep a little later than usual. We really were after a good cup of coffee. After trying to find a place one Moroccan man accompanied us to one restaurant. We sat in the front for breakfast not knowing that they had a beautiful dinning spot in the back with plants and overlooking the mountain. That is were we had our breakfast the next morning.
well this is all for today, There is at least 2 more posts to cover Morocco, mantente atento!
